Oregon Electric Railway Preferred Capital Stock

Oregon Electric Railway Preferred Capital Stock, issued from 1908 to 1910. The first two certificates were issued in 1908, numbers 3 through 22 in 1909, and numbers 23 through 30 in 1910.
Of all the different varieties of OERy certificates, we think these to be the most attractive. Lithographed by the Broun-Green Co., there are five vignettes, all four corners adorned by a vignette having something to do with the miracle of the age, electricity.
These are from the stock book we acquired outright. There were 25 issued and cancelled certificates, all but one in saleable condition. There are also about 150 unissued and uncancelled pieces.
Certificates #1 & #2 are made out to the Willamette Construction Company, the contractor for laying the track and building the bridges and trestles. They are for 400 shares and 3600 shares, respectively. Many of the other certificates are made out to Moffat & White, the OERy agents, for ten shares each. The rest of the issued pieces are for various small share amounts.

Oregon Electric Railway Preferred Shares, P Series, issued 1910 and 1911. The P Series Preferred Shares were sold and transferred from Portland.
From a book of 500, there were only 7 pieces issued. At the time of survey, we counted 4 pieces issued and cancelled, one having a damaged lower edge, and a second having several inkstains on the front, leaving two desirable, scarce pieces. It looked as though most, if not all, of the remaining 490+ unissued pieces were present.

Oregon Electric Railway Preferred Shares, NY Series

Oregon Electric Railway Preferred Shares, NY Series, issued from a book of 500 in several different sections, as though different agents or brokers had been involved at different times. These certificates are identical to the P Series Preferred Shares except for the prefix to the numbers, and they were issued from New York City.
Certificates NY1 through NY65 were issued from July of 1910 through September of 1911. Numbers NY66 through NY111 were unissued & cancelled, having been previously signed by an out-going president. Numbers NY113 through NY122 were issued in 1912 & 1913. Numbers NY124 through NY162 were unissued and cancelled.
And so it went through a bit more than half of the 500 pages, until at NY314, we saw the stub for the last issued piece. We estimate there were at one time between 140 and 160 Issued & Cancelled pieces from this book, likely between 100 and 125 present and accounted for.

Oregon Electric Railway Temporary Certificate, Preferred Shares

Oregon Electric Railway Preferred Capital Stock, Temporary Certificate, issued from December of 1909 to July of 1910. There are two smaller books of these, the first numbered from 1 to 149, and the second from 150 to 199. They are on intricate, yet plain-looking American Bank Note Company forms.
Most of the first book was issued, and the second was untouched, except that #199 was posted in the board meeting minutes. Many of these have letters or stock powers attached, and the variety of document and/or revenue stamps affixed is also very interesting. A few have the Irrevocable Stock Power attached by a sizeable straight pin! We tallied 75 Issued & Cancelled pieces, a group of 8 Unissued & Cancelled, and 48 Unissued & Not Cancelled in the first book; all Unissued & Not cancelled in the second book.
